When somebody is held back within the asylum system, the cycle of poverty and homelessness is a common reality driven by the hostile environment. A reality Ali Martin knew too well, "It was not easy to get food. Those were starving days for me. I starved."
Refugee Council Destitution Service aims to intervene wherever possible with the right support.
Since being in touch with us, Ali Martin has been supported by a destitution caseworker: "Apart from the counselling services, which I received from the Refugee Council, I also received food support, because they gave me vouchers to get food."
This winter, it’s crucial we can continue offering our essential services like our Destitution Service, so that those who are at risk of facing extreme poverty can receive the support they urgently need.
Winter can be hard for refugees and people seeking safety but with your help it doesn’t have to be. Please donate today:
£10 could pay for 2 refugees to get a hot meal, have a shower and wash their clothes.
£35 could be given directly as a hardship grant, so homeless people seeking asylum can afford basic costs like travel and food.
£60 could pay for a person to have two advice and support sessions from a destitution co-ordinator.
Together with your support we can show refugees they're not alone this winter.
Thank you for your continued support of refugees and people seeking asylum.
