The Government's new Nationality and Borders Act will criminalise men, women and children who have no choice but to make their own way to the UK desperately seeking our protection. Far from deterring people from making dangerous journeys it will punish those who need our help.
A huge range of voices have condemned this anti-refugee legislation and called for an alternative approach - but the Government has prioritised control over compassion.
The fight is far from over. The warmth and generosity shown in communities up and down the country towards people whose lives have been torn apart by the conflicts in Afghanistan, Ukraine and other parts of the world, shows that most people simply want an asylum system that is humane and fair.
We will continue to speak out to ensure that people seeking protection from war and persecution are welcomed and that everyone's claim for asylum is treated equally and fairly. Will you join us?
